The Sanskrit word yoga means union, or connection. The union of body, mind, spirit. Or perhaps, the connection to something greater. I also like to think of it as a process of uncovering and discovering who you really are. Yoga is so much more than a physical practice. It is a way of life. The practice serves as a vehicle to help bring you back “home”. To yourself. To find that which already exists within you.

So, can you do yoga? Yes. Anyone can do yoga. Honor the body you are living in with kindness and compassion. Yoga meets you where you are. No need to twist yourself into a pretzel (although you can if you’re able:) or have any religious beliefs.

Roll out your mat, and your journey begins. There are many lessons to be learned while doing “the practice”, and those can be taken with you off your mat to put into play in your life. Learn about balance in tree pose. Experience staying steady and calm amidst challenge in warrior pose. Feel how breath fills your body with life.
